Top Major Appliance Manufacturers
To the average consumer, the landscape of appliance brands being sold in the U.S can be very confusing. Let’s see if we can break things down by sorting the leading “brands” by actual “manufacturers”.
Even though there are many major appliance brands being sold in the U.S., most of them are manufactured by only a few companies. Here are the top six manufacturers listed in alphabetical order:
GE – Haier
Among these brands, Whirlpool and *GE-Haier each lay claim to being the world’s largest appliance manufacturer. Depending on how you count unit sales either could be correct.
GE-Haier claims to be the world’s largest appliance manufacturer based on their total unit sales. Included in this number are many thousands (perhaps millions) of Haier window air conditioners and compact (under counter) refrigerators. However, AHAM, the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, does not consider these categories to be “major” appliances. Using the same definition of major appliances that has been used for many years, Whirlpool is the largest manufacturer of “major” appliances. Only if we add in window air conditioners and compact refrigerators does GE-Haier become the largest appliance manufacturer.

It’s worth noting that there are other fine appliance brands available, and you might consider them in addition to the names listed above. In particular, there are some great brands in the luxury appliance category that we haven’t mentioned. For example, Sub Zero, Wolf, Cove, Miele, and Viking, would be top brands to consider in the luxury category. Check out all the options by calling or visiting Arizona Wholesale today.
*A few years ago GE Appliances was purchased by Haier a Chinese company. Haier retains the right to use the GE name on their appliances for 25 years.
